One may start a job for the paycheck, but the money alone won't keep you there. Matt Sherman, owner of MaidPro of Denver, definitely gets it when it comes to creating a well rounded work environment that keeps employees happy. Even in a down economy, Matt throws his annual MaidPro of Denver Company Picnic as a way of celebrating and saying "thank you" to his employees. "It's incredibly important for building the kind of community you want to have, a family environment and one that helps everyone support one another," he says.

Every year MaidPro of Denver rents a group picnic site at Cherry Creek State Park and invites all the employees and their families for a day of fun. The site has volleyball, a playground for kids, a lake, and is far from the roads (so parents can let the kids run worry free). MaidPro provides everything needed for grilling and drinks, and the employees all pitch in with a side dish. To top it all off, service provider Ruth Rodriguez performs as a professional clown, and for the past three years she has put on quite a show at the picnic. "Florecita the bi-lingual clown" comes with a boom box, games, contests, face painting, prizes, and jokes, keeping kids and adults alike entertained!

Matt has thrown the company picnic since MaidPro of Denver's first year, when it was just five people grilling at his house. This year, about 85 people attended the picnic. "People can bond and get to know each other a little bit better outside of the work environment," Matt says. "We already have quite a family environment - lots of people socialize outside of work and they all take care of each other."
